This is one of 20th Century artist Clyde Provonsha's illustrations depicting the second coming of Jesus.
When considering the sources chronicling the lives of psychics, mediums and channelers who've gained renown, one may realize how comparatively little-known is Marjorie Livingston — an English author who chronicled her psychic experiences in four books.
Born in 1893 with the year of her passing as yet unknown to me, Marjorie Livingston designated herself as having served as clairaudient medium for the voices of ‘Control’ or ‘Guide’ Personalities in The New Nuctemeron (1930), The Harmony of the Spheres (1931), The Elements of Heaven (1932) and An Outline of Existence (1933).
In her first book, Livingston reported about the Control under whose
influence she worked: "He came to me after I had been engaged in psychic writing for about a year, and gave me his name as 'Arcazaiel.'" She also identified "Zabdiel" as "that other Control who has assisted in the production of this book."
It has come to me clairaudiently, each word faint, yet distinct, within the mind as is the memory of notes which comprise a tune. As a rule, the language has flowed fluently, without pause or interruption, and with such rapidity that it has taxed my clerical powers to the utmost. At other times, the sentences have come word by word, with appreciable pauses, so that it has been impossible to follow the sense of the context until the whole paragraph could be read over.
The New Nuctemeron took six weeks to complete. I wrote about five days each week, between ten-thirty in the morning and midday. The only light allowed me was a small red lamp.
In The New Nuctemeron 'Arcazaiel' is quoted by Livingston in Chapter I:
That which is written of the Word of God has been set down by the mediumship of man, and man, so far from being infallible, was ever a faulty instrument, since his knowledge was bounded, and his nature self-opinionated.
This is a matter of which I would speak, a subject beyond your knowledge either religious or scientific, the composition of the human mind. It is this organism which is the true Ego, which enlivens the otherwise inanimate matter that constitutes the human body, and which escapes at death to manifest in matter analogous to other planes of existence.
It is this Life-Spark which has eluded the research of all scientists, and which theologians can only explain as coming from God. This, in its essence, is true, but it is not the whole of the truth. The Life-Spark, emanating in the first place from the Creator, assumes that condition which we know as personality. In this process it absorbs into its organism a mass of material the composition of which would be incomprehensible to you, but it nevertheless acquires it, and is itself influenced in its own essential substance and in its powers of perception.
Topics in The New Nuctemeron include the necessity for the Initiate "to identify his nature and desires with the Eternal Current"; the Nature of Evil; the Celestial Essences; Astral Spheres and Affinities; 'the Twilight Path'; 'the Resurrection and the Life'; and Nirvana.
Marjorie explained in the "Explanatory Note" at the beginning of her second book:
This book is by nature a sequel to a former work, The New Nuctemeron, published last year, which contained a definite reference to the conjectural writings of Apollonius, long since destroyed. Both these volumes were dictated to me by one who names himself Arcazaiel. At first, I accepted this name as a pseudonym of Apollonius, but I have since discovered he is a separate personality, and acts more or less as the Scribe, or interpreter of Apollonius.
The communication encompasses essential aspects of the creation of the cosmos. Here follow some excerpts from The Harmony of the Spheres.
So far as we may conceive it, creation was the giving forth of energy from the central nucleus of life, which is the divine Mind. Because of His Nature, God radiates energy as the sun radiates light. The reactions of mind bring into action the great principle of positive and negative factors, which enabled the generated energy to contain itself within its own limits, each unit of power functioning within its allotted cycle and not distributing destructive radiations. Energy, therefore, containing the nucleus of its power within its own vortex, became attractive and acquisitive in nature. Through the ages, such particles have united to form the atom, and atoms have united to form solar universes.
The principle of the solar system and the principle of the atom are the same. It is the principle of the gyration of the negative electron around the positive nucleus, as, in a greater sense, negative creation revolves around its Creator, God.
You think of your physical state as "Earth" and your evolved spirit state as "Heaven," but this "Heaven" is actually a part of the earth-planet. It is a cycle, or to be more explicit, a condition of greater expansion, since it encircles your physical state and may be any number of cycles removed from it, and widens ever outward toward contact with other and more evolved cycles of progression.
Thought-forms, because of their integral quality of attraction, united in groups forming cycles in the first orbit upon the same principle on which your solar system proceeds to-day. Within this orbit there is only one sphere known to us now, and that is the Seventh Heaven, the Nirvana of the Christ. It is here the Creator manifested Himself in that first substance and has made Himself known through Him Who is the Son of God.
Confuse not this Manifestation with the earthly form of Jesus. It was the Christ-Spirit which entered into Jesus, but this was of later occurrence and local to the plane of earth . . .
The first life, therefore, was manifested in the Magnetic Field of God. Matter came not first in this Sphere, and from it Man, but Mind begat Mind. and the Begotten Mind created its own environment out of the elements it found in the Aura of the Creator.
The primal Energy, by nature electrical, imbued with consciousness through the Mind of its Creator, became impregnated with the thermal powers of expansion, the chemical material with which to manifest outwardly, and the element of love, or attraction, which also is in the likeness of God, by which such chemicals might be assembled and retained within their proper sphere.
The atom itself is a structure of particles containing a consciousness of life. Atomic aggregates produce all physical forms which manifest in Nature, and it is by absorption from these evolved species that man has become the presiding intelligence within terrestrial matter.
Resurrection is universal. There is no resurrection of an organic structure into a plane unsuited to its requirements, but there is likewise no destruction of consciousness, however infinitesimal may be its form.
The Elements of Heaven is described on the title page as "Script Received by Marjorie Livingston." The author wrote in the Foreword: "Chronologically, it is the first of four books of similar writing which I have received inspirationally . . . the entire writing was received clairaudiently. I heard Zabdiel's voice as clearly as I hear a voice speaking through a telephone, and I wrote at his dictation with great rapidity, without pause, and practically without correction." The following paragraphs are excerpts.
How can it be wrong to speak with us? Did any say Enoch did wrong when it was written, "He walked with God"? Did any charge Jacob with evil powers when he beheld the Ladder reaching to our spheres whence Angel-friends passed up and down upon their mission? Do any of your organised clerical bodies exist who fling mud at Saint Teresa and Joan of Arc because they were consciously and voluntarily in touch with the world of spirit?
That the fall of man was necessary is a truth you yourself have already grasped. Had man not been possessed of free-will he must needs have been an automaton, a being without hope or fear, without suffering or joy. For it is the presence of sin upon the earth-plane which is the primary cause of all sorrow and sickness of body—without these things at all, man never having been aware of the possibility of their existence, the capacity for joy and delight becomes excluded from the gamut of his emotions.
Now, the primary cause of the phenomenon of the rainbow is water. The bow is a spectrum, the facets of the earth divide the light of the sun into colours and they are reflected, as in a mirror, upon the molecular walls of atmosphere which surround the earth surface, and contain a certain quantity of moisture which endows them with this reflective quality. It is, in a word, light shining upon water, and receiving the prismatic impressions of physical conditions. Do not imagine we are going to talk of scientific subjects, for that, there are better mediums than yourself, but I wish to use the elementary workings of organic matter as a basis for describing the spiritual parallel of such phenomena.
Now, the light in our present metaphor, stands for God, His Light shines upon the water—the life element. The prism is the human factor, its ever varying facets transmuting the pure whiteness of the light into colour, in part gloriously beautiful, in part dull and murky, where the glass of the prism has gathered the dust of sin and of ignorance and neglect. Yet through all the ages the light of God, shining upon life through the medium of humanity, remains ever pure in its perfect blend of seven-fold colour—"I have set My Bow in the clouds, a covenant between Me and the earth."
Believe that this is God's promise that the waters of life shall not close over man's head, drowning him in the depths of oblivion or eternal hell, but that all mankind shall return to God who made them, that they shall each be perfect in his own individuality, losing naught of his own ego as he attains to perfection. All of us who have lived, and are living on earth are of the band of our Lord the Christ, and even the last straggler shall come Home at last. Then, we may go forward together, onward in the wake of our Leader, toward some new work, or which we yet know naught.
Every act and every thought of man becomes a definite creation with its own influence for good or ill. It affects the vibrations which surround the earth surface, and either assists in purifying the atmospheric and electrical waves so that they may respond to the heavenly influences, or else it encumbers man's surroundings that it becomes well-nigh impossible to keep in touch with him spiritually.
It is therefore apparent that unless we would leave man to his fate unaided and allow him to drift into a condition of disease both physical and spiritual, and plunge himself in chaos, we must on our side act in order to counteract the conditions consequent on his own actions. And this not by a miracle, else would not man then drift into a state of carelessness, banking upon the certainty he would again be rescued thus, and personal endeavour would become unnecessary. No, in God's power, we work through the laws of nature of which some phase is ever present to cope with such necessities as shall arise through the free-willed act of man.
I am anxious to impress you that your bodily health is an important factor in the work, that it does matter, that although your carnate body is but an outer shell, it is God-given and must be cared for. It is given you to fulfill its own function, it is a cog in the great machinery of progression.
Now, sin, in our eyes, is not merely an act, or a succession of acts, it is a condition of mind which by its adverse electric power in the human heart, attracts a miasmic nucleus of evil vibrations. This does not affect merely the person committing the sin, but it also affects the atmosphere in his vicinity. It is clear, therefore, that as man multiplied, his sins multiplied, and the atmospheric conditions and electrical vibrations emanating from his person, were charged with evil powers. This power did not affect man alone; it affected vegetation. You read in the Bible-story that the earth brought forth weeds. It also influenced the animal creation. They acquired the sins of mankind. They became savage, voracious; the males of their species increased in ardour. Procreation over-reached itself. This state of affairs had to be kept in check from our side. Animals became carnivorous. This was an effective solution to the problem, not an ideal one certainly, but conditions were not ideal.
Jesus was the means through which the Christ was manifest to us. He never said: believe upon the Christ only through Jesus. It is the Christ Himself we worship, His gospel we preach, His Spirit we extol, the Spirit which has inspired every religion, every nation and people and tongue and language.
This topic placing Jesus and Christ in perspective recurs in Marjorie Livingston's fourth book of 'psychic communication' transcripts An Outline of Existence, where the following passages are offered. Except for the chapters "Apollonius" and the chapter expressly attributed to 'Leader,' the Guides aren’t identified by name for specific passages but their names are listed together at the book’s conclusion: Zabdiel; Arcazaiel, the Scribe; Apollonius the Tyanean; Aashar, Priest of Ra; Leader; A Philosopher of Ancient Greece; and "The Hierophant, who is the Master of our Group, sends greeting. Amen."
For you, the Christ-Spirit manifested in Jesus the Nazarene, a Revelation of divine God and an Example of divine Man [man]. Yet was this Visitation accorded to one group of peoples in one period within a single planet of the universe. And although such a dispensation would be to you, who are partakers, all-sufficient, yet it is well that you should consider yourselves as belonging to an epoch in time and space, and lose not sight of the laws which govern not you alone, but all communities on all planes of the Cosmos.
Divinity is not a matter of kind, but of degree. All creation is the out-breathing of the Source of Primordial Energy, and is of necessity divine in essence.
The primary aspect, then, of divinity, is God.
So we arrive at the secondary aspect of the Divine Principle, God manifest in Personality, the Knowable God, the Spirit of Christ.
Again we speak of a spirit which pervades the Cosmos, and is not confined to any Personality that can be expressed in the terms of human attributes.
The Christ-Spirit, or God Manifest, is subject to the conditions of a Dimension of which you have no conception . . .
He is manifest in all Nature, in every individual. There is no life, no existence, without His Presence, for He is the Intelligence of God directing the Energy of God.
The Christian Church has itself to blame for its ignorance of these things, for, from its inception, it has destroyed the written word of many great and inspired Teachers who were sent by God to the children of men.
The Gospels, as you possess them now, were written for the children of the world who were young in understanding, but behind their simple teachings lie the Christian Mysteries, a treasury of occult and divine teaching which the world has elected to ignore.
So shall you perceive the Christ, and through Him the revelation of God throughout that period of history which shall be known to you as the Aquarian Age, when the solar universe has passed from under the sway of Earth, and is under the influence of the Lord of the planet Uranus, whose vibrations will revive the study of Mysticism and accelerate the acquisition of all wisdom.
The Cosmic Christ is above all Form and Expression, and all Manifestation is but a link wrought in order to make contact possible. You seek the light of Truth which is beyond all symbolism, where all manifestations will melt into the perception of the Unmanifest.
In creating man from the Likeness, or Being, of Himself, the Most Holy gave Himself to be crucified upon the cross of matter. His Likeness, His Spirit, is within all Being, and is sacrificed, therefore, to the exigencies and pain of matter. This is the idea underlying the whole policy of the plane of Earth as a degree of Initiation. This idea has been overlooked, yet the world has never lacked the Symbol of its inception. Far back in Atlantis came Osiris, his teaching filtered into the teachings of the world, and the Symbol of the Cross was before the eyes of all Initiates in the ancient Temples of the Mysteries.
Then came Jesus, a Living Symbol, incorporating in His Life a teaching of the Higher Mysteries . . .
. . . the Sons of God have trod the Way of the Initiate, the Via Crucis. They have suffered murder at the hands of the King's enemies, they have endured crucifixion in matter, and are marked with the Wounds by which all men shall know them.
Therefore he that is initiated in the Mystery of Truth shall read and understand.
The external personality of Caiaphas is that of a human soul, progressing through the rigours of Karma, but the relationship of his motives with the events of the day places him as a symbol of the destruction which is the work of prejudice and self-opinion.
In the traditional name of Pilate is symbolized the demand of those who claimed of the Master that He should dedicate His Temple to the Empire of Rome . . .
And behold, His Second Coming shall be to those who behold Him arisen, and find him within the Garden, the fruitful soil of their own souls.
So in the dawn of awaking consciousness, upon the Day of the Lord, the daughters of men, the Magdalens of your human world, shall come while it is yet dark into the garden of their own hearts and shall hear the Voice of the Belovéd.
Then shall the Sun which set on Calvary arise in the East and the Light of God shall shine upon the garden of the human soul and it shall be fruitful. And it shall take the rays of the sun for its own, and become One with the Light.
And the Crosses of Calvary shall be displaced from their sockets, and in their stead shall the rim of the sun's circumference be manifested in the Heavens, the symbol of completion, and of the Life Eternal.
